What will Hubb’s fins look like ? Wanna know ? They will be Makapuu fins but enhanced with a little ankle pad and laces, and will be stiffer black Makapuu’s. Here’s how they look like: Hubb’s Makapuu Fins. Same mold as the Makapuu Original fins but with more options.

Spongercity new features and updates

We have some new features for you guys ! As you might have noticed we slightly re-designed ou sidebar on the right, and now offer more options than before and better options.

First things first, the new features:

  • Once again we decided to innovate in term of bodyboarding news and media. You can now follow all the Spongercity News stories on a daily basis on TWITTER. Why Twitter ? Because you can follow us for free on your mobile phone with Twitter. It’s a wonderful little app that works really well. It’s the missing app between Facebook, MySpace and Emails. We’ll try to add personnal and cool little Twitt posts on Twitter, not just the basic news stories. Anyway, on our Twitter feed you will receive all the Spongercity news headlines automatically.

Maybe we’re coming too early with this new option and very few of you have a Twitter account but believe us it’s only a matter of time before everyone has a Twitter account and it’s great to keep in touch with people or websites when you’re away from your computer or on trip. You can subscribe to our Twitter feed on your phone for 2 weeks on trip, then stop etc. Too easy. Same with your buddies.

Not convinced yet ? You ask us what’s Twitter ? Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? AND you can receive all Twitter stories on your mobile phone ! Our Twitter feed is here and the Twitter site is here.

  • Second new feature on Spongercity.com is our FLICKR account. We’ve posted all our pictures out there, it’s all sorted by albums and it’s the easiest thing to browse thru. If you have a FLickr account send us your contact name ! We’ll add you in our contacts.
  • Third new feature is our new and improved NEWSLETTER. We’ve really improved our newsletter and mailing system and will soon do a little giveaway thru the newsletter to celebrate this. We’ll try to update the newsletter and exclusive giveaways as often as we can. If you haven’t subscribed yet you should! Our subscribers will be stoked.

And now let’s talk about the updates:

  • We’ve updated our links page with new websites, blogs and stuff worth of interest. Get lost out there, it’s always fun to discover new sites. If we forgot to add you in our links let us know !
  • We’ve added two new albums on our Flickr galleries: it was firing here a couple days ago ! Have a look at these beachies and froth. We’ve also added some pictures from the ASR in California last month and random SoCal pictures. Fun stuff.

Cheers!

Share your FLICKR or TWITTER links and accounts in the comments, we’ll add you to our contacts.

Unite logo re-design and soon to be updated website

We got an email this morning from the good people at UNITE saying that they’re changing their logo, starting…now ! with their new summer (in Oz at least) range. The new logo looks good to us.

Here’s the little text Unite sent us:

Unite Clothing Company today announced the launch of its new corporate logo. Unite was founded in 2004 by former professional bodyboarder Joel Taylor and is a leader in the clothing sector of the bodyboarding industry.

Unite will incorporate its new corporate logo into their Summer 2008 range. The new line will include Tee Shirts, Walk Shorts, Board Shorts, Rash Shirts, Caps, and much more. The Unite Summer 2008 collection will be available at Authorised Unite Dealers across Australia in November.

So, you’re probably wondering, why the change? “I dunno, we’ve been doing this for over four years now, we just figured it was time for a fresh look for the company:, Joel Taylor, Unite Managing Director, explained. “As the old saying goes, change is as good as a holiday. We’re still the same company with the same direction; we just have a new logo. We are stoked about the change and hope our supporters like it as much as we do.”

Unite Clothing Company also announced today that its new advertising campaign and website will be introduced this month. “After more than 12 months of development, we are excited to implement this new look to our brand – as well as the new corporate logo – it kinda heralds a new beginning for the company,” said Mr. Taylor.

The 2008/2009 advertising campaign will first appear in Riptide Magazine and Movement Magazine – alongside the launch of the new website online – in October.

World Tour 2008 important update

There’s recently been 3 cancelled events on the world tour and we thought it’d be important to give you more details about where we’re at with the title race this year. As we just read on the IBA site here is a little sum up:

After the cancellation of Men’s events in Bahia (Brazil) Tenerife (Canary Islands) and Isle De Margarite (Venezuela) the IBA WMT ratings will now be taken from the best 5 results and not the best 6. It is simply following the rule of 50% + 1 so with only 9 events in 2008 the best 5 will now count towards the championship.

This will now see the lead past to Guilherme Tamega (Brazil) with Uri Valadao (Brazil) and Ben Player (Australia) all within 400 points of each other.

Pierre Luis Costes (France) and Mark McCarthy (South Africa) round out the top 5 and are also outside chances to win the IBA World Tour.

One thing is for sure….the event at Confital will once again determine the World Title race and will ensure an exciting finish to another great year for the IBA.

Stay tuned for more info as it comes to hand…

Max Arent on the world wide web

Max just sent us an email and introduced his new Blog/Website to us. It’s called Followmemax.com and is pretty cool. It’s everything about Max, not just bodyboarding but also music, fashion, films, vids etc. As Max explains: “the main idea – the manifesto – behind this website, is giving you, the reader (whoever that may be) a realistic look into the experiences, personality and interests of my own and what are respectably similar to a bunch other of the professional boogy dudes I ride with. Surfing, girls, film, photos, art, cheek, music, lies, fuck you’s, good times, rock and roll… experiences ! Cheeks ! Girls ! Surfing ! Lies ! Rumours ! Waves ! Art ! Music ! Girls ! Lies ! Film ! Quotes ! Girls ! ROCK and ROLL !!!!!!!!!………!!!!!!!!!…….!!!!!!!!!……….!!!!!!!!!

A behind the scenes take on where we really get our kicks. Even more so, how SIMILAR we riders are to you. Your gonna get rude, your gonna get raw, even sometimes contraversial, Owwwww! But always fun : )

Really just feeding you people with, whatever the fuck I feel like.

Bodyboarding is so fucking cool at the moment, so cool, radical and rebellious, some media outlets are even scared to cover it.

So bookmark followmemax.com and through my informative, consistent and what I hope to be entertaining updates, you may just take a little fancy towards this filthy blog”.

Riptide Mag issue 166 hits the streets

Riptide Mag issue 166 should hit the streets as we speak. It’s got Sydney’s Jose Marquina at The Zone on the cover. “Jose cops 20 stiches after getting whipped, and then lands himself his first Riptide cover” says Riptide. Then you’ve got some How To tips with Gold Coaster Corey McLean. You’ve got a Byron Namenyi interview, Byron being a hardcore band singer and GC shredder. You’ve also got Port Macquarie’s Damien King and Jones Russell follow the footsteps on celebrated Aussie explorer Edward John Eyre in a wild, across Oz adventure. There’s a West Coast trip with VS Team Ryan Hardy, Mitch Rawlins and Pierre-Louis Costes. There’s a feature with Dallas Singer talking about “his busy university, bodyboarding and club president schedules”. There’s a Summer wetsuits review as well. And last but not least there’s a Glen “Pencey” Thurston’s gear giveaway.

Yewww that’s a lot for one issue actually. Sounds pretty good to us. Can’t wait to see that mag in the mail box !
