Movement Mag issue 28 now available

Another absolutely amazing issue. We eventually received our copy as you can see. Serious design skills and a real pro approach to journalism and our sport in general with just the right dose or arty layouts and balance between texts and photography. We enjoyed reading the Dre interview yesterday and we’ve kept a couple articles to read today hehe. Yeah reading Movement mag is always a pleasure!

In this issue you’ll find some sick hawaii shots, the Dre interview, a nude chick, amazing shots from around the globe, kids in samoa (future trading kiddos), and some huge WA nuggets-shaped barrel.

DK Sessions news, the DKS 09 season start

We just got some good news from our mate Clayton at DKS to start the 09 season. Here’s the latest from DKS:

“Hi DKS supporters,

Welcome to the 09 season. It certainly started off with a bang at the Pipe contest with some great waves and DK riding. It was good to see Kainoa back in the water and hangin with the DK crew. Congrats to current DKS Champ Bud Miyamoto for collecting his 3rd straight Pipe Crown in fine style edging out Dubb in a close final. Also here in Oz we just started the Aussie Pro Tour and State Rounds at DBah on the Gold Coast where DKS rider Dane Pope cleaned up both State and Pro divisions killing it in the solid waves on finals day.

Attached is the entry form for this years contests here in Australia. Again there are 2 events planned for this year, DKS Tiona Park and DKS Port Mac, both events are presented by Sundowner Holidays. The entry form has not yet hit any websites and are exclusive for the riders and supporters at this stage.

Accommodation specials will be advertised in the coming weeks as our new DKS website takes shape and should be released soon. The more people that support us and book accommodation at the Sundowner Holiday Parks, the more we can recieve in return, so please help support our sponsors. Please also take note of the NEW postal address for entries to be posted to.

Thats it for now but more info will be coming shortly.

Thanks,

DROPKNEE SESSIONS”

Chad Waldron enters the Stab Little Weeds contest

What’s Little Weeds you gonna ask ? “Little Weeds is three a series of three five-to-six week heats. It’s an online competition where you create a profile and upload photos and video of yourself. Those entries are then voted on by the public. There are five categories: modelling, surfing, writing, photography and videography. The three winners of the three heats (ultimately chosen by mentors after considering all votes and comments) of all five categories will be flown to an undisclosed location in July to compete against other Little Weeds. From here (and sponsorship proposals willing), we’ll take all five winners to another undisclosed location (okay, Bali) and create an entire issue of Stab (or Spit x Stab) on-location created by and featuring Little Weeds winners”. Read more here if you wish.

So Chad has entered the competition in the videography category. Check his profile here to read more about Chad and watch a cople clips edited by Chad. We hope Chad’s gonna win that thing coz he fuckin’ deserves it.

Surfing seriously needs some good film makers and creative people and Chad is one of them. When you watch bbing videos like the Nofriends series, the Waldrons vids, Todd Barnes vids or Bryce Thurston’s vids you can clearly see how much talent there is in the bbing community. Is there more talent where money’s not involved ? Pretty much all bbing movie makers made all their vids for the love of it. We’ve also seen great talents in the longboarding/alternative crafts/fishs/eggs/singlefins/arty stuff like Seaworthy, Thread, Sprout etc. in the last couple years but we havent seen too many new talents in shortboard movies. Seriously. Let’s hope the Little Weeds comp will bring cool new people in the limelight !

Go vote for Chad right now ! Vote here – click Stab Up on the side of his profile ! Check his profile here.

Wallpaper – Spongercity x Chris Gurney Co-Lab

Say hello to how second wallpaper collaboration project ! After our collaboration with VS™ Boards and Dan Sivess a few month ago we’ve decided to work with a photographer this time to bring you another cool wallpaper. And here you go:

The SPONGERCITY™ x Chris Gurney Wallpaper Co-Lab

We’ve used a sick water shot of young rider James Nymeyer by West Oz photographer Chris Gurney. Perfect water angle, perfect timing, and most beautiful set up and colors you could ask for a desktop or iPhone wallpaper ! Feels like you’re getting barrelled while seated in front of your computer !

We’ve included 10 different sizes for all computer screens, from 1920px wide to 800px wide, and have a choice between WIDE or 4:3 size resolution. Check at the bottom of the list the iPhone / iPodTouch special size. We designed it taking into account the iPhone interface to make sure the wallpaper is gonna look sick and won’t mess with the rest of the iPhone user interface like Time/Date and Unlock buttons.

Choose a screen resolution and download for it for FREE right now:

PCINSTRUCTIONS: Click on the wallpaper you want, wait until it’s downloaded in its new window, then control-click the wallpaper : choose “Save as wallpaper”. Close the window once you’ve got your wallpaper.
MACINSTRUCTIONS: Click on the wallpaper you want, wait until it’s downloaded in its new window, then you can simply drag the wallpaper onto the desktop. Or you can also control-click the wallpaper and choose “Download image to disk” which works fine as well. Close the window once you’ve got your wallpaper. Go to your Mac preferences panel to customize the settings of your desktop.
iPhoneINSTRUCTIONS: Download the wallpaper (iPhone size of course) and drop it on your computer in any folder (or on your iPhoto library if you’re using iPhoto on a Mac). Then open iTunes, go to the “Photos” tab while you synchronize your iPhone with your computer and choose to sync the folder that contains the wallpaper (or sync the wallpaper directly from iPhoto if you’re on a Mac). Once the wallpaper is uploaded on your iPhone and the synchronisation is over just go to your iPhone settings > Wallpaper then choose the wallpaper and validate. Boom! Done !

We’ve even interviewed Chris Gurney while working with him on this Wallpaper Co-Lab project just because it was cool to do so:

Hi Chris howdy ?
Hey Theo, pretty good, thanks for the interview.

Can you introduce yourself ?
i’m Chris, i’m 18 and i live in Perth, West Australia, and its pretty boring most of the time but its not too far to drive from here to get good waves.

How long have you been shooting pictures and how did you start ?
Probably about 4 years or so now and I’ve only just started shooting in the water. I just started taking photos before or after i’d go for a surf kind of thing, then i got injured and because i couldn’t surf for a month or so i took photos and it sort of grew from there. When i was younger i was also always interested in cameras and photography.

Are there any subjects or angles or places you like to shoot more ?
In terms of subjects, i’d like to shoot Ryan Hardy more haha! I’m still yet to see the guy surf in real life so i’m pretty deprived there. As for angles, i’d love to shoot more fisheye stuff in better waves.

Do you shoot mostly action shots or also lifestyle stuff ?
Both, but recently i’ve shot a lot more ‘lifestyle’ stuff because i flooded my waterhousing a few weeks back and lost my fisheye and camera body.

Land shots or water shots, what do like better ?
I guess it depends on the conditions and stuff, like you’d rather see a fisheye shot of someone pulling into a closeout than a land shot of it. I think its more rewarding to get a good shot in the water and it’s probably more fun shooting out there too.

Can you tell us more about that James Nymeyer shot on the Co-Lab Wallpaper you just released with Spongercity ?
Well that is from a little trip that we did down to Margaret River when James and his mate came over from the east coast (of Aust.) and stayed with me. The waves were pretty small the whole time we went down there but we found this one perfect little rip bank and shot out there for a bit, and that is one of the shots from that surf.

Who do you look up to for inspiration or for his/her work in photography?
Alex Turoy would be the main guy I reckon. Right now in particular he is getting tones of shots run and doing really well which is good to see. Apart from him theres a lot of other guys, I like Jeremy Grieve, Peter Quinn and Paul Natale’s shots a lot as well.

What’s coming next ? Any trips ?
I’m working a fair bit at the moment trying to save up some cash so hopefully I’ll be able to do a few trips soon, Hawaii next season is definetly something I want to do as well.

Thanx Chris.
