Riptide Mag issue 165 will be out next week. It’s the BIG issue. It’s got Rawlins’ massive barrel on the cover as you can see here (same wave as the Movement issue 25 cover we reckon). Here’s what Riptide 165 is all about (from the Riptide website): Riptide 165 hits the newsstands next week and if you’re a subscriber it might even be sittin’ pretty in your hands by this Friday! This issue we’re going BIG with Chris James’s Big Man On Campus feature, our biggest backpack and boardbag guide yet, plus Sean Virtue gives you the low-down on his gig earning the big bucks on oil rigs. But wait there’s still plenty more! Issue 165 is packin’ two massive pullout posters, an Abstract Angles spread and the gargantuan sequence of Mitch Rawlins’s backdoor keg.
On a side note, Movement Mag added their issue 25 podcast episode on their podcast (it’s the Rawlins interview). For some reason we couldnt read the file properly on iTunes… maybe you guys will read it well ? Encoding problems maybe ?
Other side note: The Panic Button has also added a new podcast episode to their Panic Podcast, it’s issue 2.2, featuring PLC, Brad Hugues, Chad Jackson and Amaury Lavherne in West Oz. Pretty sick episode ! Go to Thepanicbutton.com.au to right-click and download it. The link on their iTunes podcast is not the correct one at the moment so you wont be able to get it from iTunes, you can only right-click on their website to download the episode.

We’ll keep you posted and will for sure review the DVD when it’s available.

The DVD we talked about the other day will be called CHICKS and there’s CHICKS page here on MySpace. Teaser’s coming on the Spongercity Podcast very soon.
Other than CHICKS, US videographer John Idano (who’s no longer affiliated with 5-south) is now working on a new video called “SOFTCORE” with Garret Allard and it looks like it’s gonna be pretty good from what the teaser shows. Check Theclaptheory.com for more.

We just noticed that The Panic Button crew (makers of DRAW Dvd) uploaded a new Episode on their cool podcast. It’s Episode 2.1 – Deep South – WA. Sean Virtue escorts Amaury Laverhne and PLC in South WA. Good footage and cool music. Check their podcast here to subscribe and/or watch the Episode.

No, “Out October” is not the title of a new DVD, (although we reckon it’d be cool name ay !) it’s just a teaser for an upcoming DVD, an unnamed vid at the moment but the basic jist is that Jack Dobinson maker of “Outrageous Behavior” and Flames Yates maker of “Waynes Addiction” (which will be review here soon) are making a new vid which is based on the souh coast (Oz) and edited in chronological order.
There should be a massive premier in Wollongong come october. We’ll keep you posted.
In the mean time peep the pics from April 10, April 26, May 16, June 3, June 24 and July 5. See ya in October !
PS: Notice the bikini girls in the back of the frames ! Yewwww

Make sure to download the latest episode of the WaldronBros. BOOM! Podcast (NmdTV) coz it’s the Ben Player section in Indo and it’s nuts. So many perfect backflips, awesome style and 1 perfect barrel at Padang that we saw with our own 2 eyes in May while tripping in Bali in May. 10 sec. deep in the cave ! … And we’re sure you’ll see more crazy waves and moves in the Ben Player DVD when it’s out (soon) coz we saw Ben riding way more perfect barrels than this. Benny rules.

Yeah, that’s right, we got the news in our mail box, ROAM II is coming soon ! Chris James, Matt Lackey and Glen Thurston have been busy the last 6 months surfing the best waves Oz has to offer filming the new Nomad film project, ROAM 2. Once again Bryce Thurston is behind the lens capturing the most amazing angles in High Definition, and the crew have many memorable sessions already in the can and the photos to feature in Australia’s 2 premiere bodyboard mags shortly. Joining them in the journey this time around is Adam Luehman, Simon Ormerod, Jake Stone, Michael Novy, Dave Hubbard, Ryan Hard, Nick Ormerod, Dallas Singer, Alex Bunting, Pierre Louis Costes, Amaury Laverhne and Mitch Rawlins. ROAM 2 is proudly supported by Limited Edition Fins and Agent18 Wetsuits.
First screen captures of the movie are here:

- Simon Ormerod shacked deep at the box too

Talking about Chris James… he’s been handed a wildcard entry into the prestigious Shark Island Challenge! Here’s what Nomad says about fellow team rider Chris “Grizzly” James: Big Griz has built a solid reputation as one of Australia’s leading big wave free surfers and this caps off an extraordinary 12 months for him. Following on from last years breakthrough ROAM project, Chris then spent “40 days travelling around the World”, taking in the Philippines, Ireland, San Diego Wave house, and Mexico. Recently Chris received severe bruising to his ribs and elbow after boosting his large rig at his local and smashing into dry reef, but has bounced back and got his mind set for surfing massive kegs in Victoria last week. Good luck Griz!!
Oh and talking about the Shark Island Challenge, The No.6, the official bodyboard of the Cronulla Shark Island, is proud to announce The No.6 Shark Island Trials begin Friday, signalling the beginning of the Cronulla Shark Island Challenge waiting period at the trials end on Sunday.
This year’s No.6 trials event will not disappoint, with only one Australian (ex-world champ, Ben Player) currently ranked in the Top 16, the rest of the Aussie contingent must battle it out against array of international talent to secure a Wild card into Australia’s most prestigious bodyboarding event. This will make for an explosive event and if your in the Sydney area make sure you get on down to Cronulla to support the best riders in the world.
Coinciding with the event, the No.6 launches on to the Australian market next week: The No.6 range includes some of the most advanced technological breakthroughs in bodyboarding history, including the new Engineered Flex Core (EFC). Variable flex Stringers, Graphic Decks, Graphic Slicks, quad Jaguar channels, padded decks, fantastic new contour deck and concave bottom designs, as well as the new VICE THE BINDS Bicep leash, featuring the patented FLEX Panel for rider comfort which arrives in August. Check www.theno6.com and www.myspace.com/no6bodyboards for more info.

Two cool short video clips that you should watch this week:
- The Bodyboard Expedition 08 Ventura (USA) – Trailer: It’s classy and well edited with a good mellow soundtrack. Good bbing action with Jake Reeves and Phil Harnsberger (note his smooth backside attack at 1:38 min.).
- The 4PLAY crew tearing apart the Cook Islands. Awesome footage shot by Todd Barnes. Super good but too short alas !
Coming this week on Spongercity: the Isolated DVD review.
Coming next month on Spongercity: we ran out of Spongercity Trucker caps but we’ll have more available in July !
Also coming next month… an exclusive interview with mmhh nah, you’ll have to wait and see ! Interesting interview it will be hey !
