World tour ratings… the race is ON

It was eventually south af’ Mark Mc Carthy who won the latest event on tour (Ferrol Doninios Pro), as the press release precised Mark McCarthy, 25, claimed his maiden victory on the International Bodyboarding Association (IBA), World Tour on Saturday 6 September, while competing in the Doninos Bodyboard Pro, in Spain. McCarthy is supported on his World Tour campaign by Lizzard Surfwear, Mike Stewart Science Bodyboards and Factory7.co.za Online Surf Store.

So right now the ratings on tour look like this:
1. Valadao
2. Tamega
3. Player
4. Costes
5. McCarthy

Can Valadao win his first title ? Can Tamega come back on top and grab his 7th or something world title ? Can Player get a third nice trophy home ? Can french hellman Pierre Louis smoke everyone and get himself the crown ? Can McCarthy win a title this year ? Can someone else beat these guys and steal the trophy at the last minute ? Mmmmh we can’t tell. What do you reckon ?

All bets are open, post yours in the comments !

Things we forgot while on the road

We’re on the road in California and actually couldnt really update the site too often. We missed a couple little news stories but i’m sure we’ll be forgiven because here they are and we even have new ones for you:

- Spencer Skipper officially launched his DENZIEN leashes website the other day. Check it out herea while ago in this post last June. Looks like the leashes are made by XM surf more and it’s good quality for sure..
- The Panic Button released another episode on their cool podcast starring Hardy, Costes, Jackson, Virtue, Honeybone, Backshall, Ormerods, Luehman at the Box (WA). Go here and download / suck / rip / watch it.
- Movement Magazine changed the design of their website.
- Todd Quigley from QCD now has his own little blog. Interesting.

Other than that we (Spongercity) went to ASR the other day in San Diego. Very few bodyboard brands there. We noticed Morey / BZ were there, Catch Surf also (the Tom Morey softboards). We’ll post a couple pics if we have the time to. No good waves in South California during our trip…
We got to see the latest TURBO bodyboards though the other day, while meeting Gregg (owner/manager of the brand). Pretty cool. Good projects coming.

Also got to read Bodyboarder Magazine here in the US (the one with Dave Hubbard on the cover) which is pretty good (better than before we reckon).

Nmd TV and Boom release Episode 2.03 with Winny

Episode 2.03 of NMDtv/Boom! podcast is up online right and ready to be downloaded. Its Dave Winchester’s turn to showing you why he’s the versatile king, as he shreds apart the waves in Bali land.
Download the FREE episode through itunes here or here on the Waldron’s website.

Behind Tamega we’ve got Pierre Louis COSTES, Manuel CENTENO and Ben PLAYER.

On the Womens division it was a 100% brazilian final with Jessica BECKER, Soraia ROCHA, and Christiane KALE behind Neymera.

Hubb styling some Churchills

Jeff “The flying squirrel” Hubbard will now fly the Churchill’s way, no more Vipers. Looks like it’s official and Churchill fins should even release a Hubb Churchill model in Jan / Feb 2009. Pretty cool.

We got a couple pics from the Softcore DVD premiere in the US and a couple lines from John (the man behind the movie): Big thanks to everyone who turned up and the SOFT CORE premieres this past weekend! There was lots of good times at both of them and a lot of the big wigs in the sport showed up to have some fun. Keep a look out for the vid, coming to stores on Sept 8th!. Picture 1 and Picture 2.

Uri Valadao and Mayla Venturin win Sopelana

Uri defeated Eder Luciano and Mayla defeated Christiane Kale making for an all Brazilian domination of both divisions. Next stop is Sintra (Portugal).

More trailers coming your way !

Looks like end of 2008 – Begin of 2009 is gonna be pretty boogie-movie-heavy. There are heaps of trailers popping here and there on the world wide web and we couldn’t help but choose a couple ones to post here, for your viewing pleasure:

- Mike and Scotty Carter released a weird but cool teaser for Fire
- Flames Yates released a teaser for his upcoming movie entitled Chicks (the movie we talked about here).
- The Brushed Aside trailer which is pretty damn good. It’s a UK movie by Andrew Course. You gotta watch the trailer. Check Danny Wall getting towed into a beast at the end !
