Although the waves were probably not the best ones you can score at Pipe we’d like to congratulate the IBA and everyone who made this possible because the quality of the webcast, the commentators, the organisation, the clips, the recaps, the replays, the promotion of the event, the fact that Redbull was involved, the TV’s running the event live, the riders level: everything was as good as it gets !
The only issue we had was the live scoring not refreshing well enough. Other than that it’s simply the best webcast and the best promotion we’ve ever seen for an event and for bodyboarding in general.
Can’t wait to watch the next event at the Box, in Western Australia in April.
Will then follow the Peruvian Inka Challenge, the Arica Chilean Challenge, The Búzios Bodyboarding Festival, the Zicatela Pro, the Sopelana BBK, the Sintra Portugal Pro, the Ferrol Pro, the Campos Pro, the Knights Beach Pro, the Reunion Pro, the Confital Pro and the Fronton Showdown.
(In bold are the Grand Slam Series events)

If you read this you probably dont give a sh*t about it, but just in case… we’d like to – at least – make the announcement official:
We recently dropped the french version of Spongercity.com so we’re back to where we started with just english language (yes, Spongercity.com has always been in english before but we translated everything in french as well).
Why did we drop the french version ?
Well, we’ve launched another french website project with a french media website called Bodyboardfrance.org which will now take care of the french news we used to write and publish on Spongercity.com – We basically merged the french stuff we used to post on the Spongercity.com ‘french version’ with what the guys at Bodyboardfrance.org are doing. They concentrate on french stuff, we concentrate on english stuff – everything is easier this way and we have much more time to publish content here on Spongercity.com in english now and work on quality interviews and reviews and stuff. We’re very happy with the way things work now and it’s sick to have more time in our hands to just work on english language and have the guys at Bodyboardfrance.org take over with the french thing.
If by any chance you used to visit the french version of Spongercity.com you can now read heaps of stuff in french language over at Bodyboardfrance.org – BodyboardFrance.org has a massive background in publishing boogie stuff on the web for frenchies, it’s a community site with a huge messageboard for frenchies and french-speaking bbers in general + a media/news website that you can browse thru with daily updates, reviews, industry news, interview etc. pretty much like we do here at Spongercity.com
No changes at all for Spongercity.com in english – we’ll keep on delivering news on a daily basis, we’ll keep on focusing on international news wherever the news come from and we’ll keep on doing what we do, trying to keep the website well designed and as clean and simple as possible. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and iTunes (thru the Spongercity Podcast) – same as always !
Thanks again to all you guys following us, it’s inspiring to check the stats & visits every now and then and we’re happy to be doing this and publish content on the web for thousands of bbers to enjoy.
Cheers,
Spongercity.com

We’re a week late on this one as we didn’t get much time to blog about everything we wanted to – and haven’t slept much recently due to intensive hours spent watching the Pipeline Pro super late every night (the Spongercity HQ are in Europe) – but here’s some cool news from TURBO:
Turbo Surf Designs are proud to announce the signing of Canary Island Super Grom – Elliot Morales. At only 19 years of age Elliot has made a big impression at his home breaks in the Canary Islands, namely the infamous El Fronton. Turbo has now backed Elliot and put him straight into The Turbo Global Team. Elliot is currently in Hawaii staying at the Turbo House for the IBA Pipeline Pro and will head out to Australia in the middle of the year to work on some team projects.
Turbo Managing Director, Gregg Taylor, stated “that he was stoked to have Elliot joining the Turbo team and looks forward to working with Elliot and furthering his career in Bodyboarding. The Canary Islands has so much talent among the local riders and it is not easy to stand out from the crowd, though Elliot has been doing that for a number of years now. It will be exciting to see how Elliot develops with his trips to Hawaii and Australia working with the senior members of the Turbo team”
Elliot simply stated “i am so happy of being a member of turbo team!!!”
At this stage Elliot is happy for his surfing to do the talking, check it out: http://www.vimeo.com/19515976

Kim Feast wins the Pipeline Pro DK Division in a tight heat against Cesar Bauer (2nd) Winny (3rd) and Myles Kauhaahaa (4th). Congrats Kim !
Sick to see all those guys shredding on the knee and although the waves weren’t that good most of the riders managed to get barreled and throw some solid snaps & floats (including the so-called prone riders who actually got some skills and sometimes even more style than some of the DKriders…).
