Glen Thurston launches his own board brand and website

Glen Thurston launches his own board brand and website. This is no secret anymore but for some reason we haven’t talked about it yet here on Spongercity.com

Have a look at his website here: http://glenthurston.com.au/ and have a look at the trailer for his new board brand called ID Bodyboards here.

PS: We’re not too sure about the trailer - kids not going to the peep show thanks to Glen and his boards more or less… which has nothing to do with bodyboarding really… - but the boards look good.

Damian King’s podcast

Damian King has a new Joker podcast with Turbo Bodyboards! Episode 1 is now available here and it’s pretty good and fun to watch.

Official press release:
The reinvention of Damian King – In this profile the double world champ explains why he’s moving his daughter’s birthday, now making finals at will and an administration role’s not for him.

A year ago Damian King’s stocks had plummeted like the rest of the world’s wealth. A late-career form slump combined with a dearth of footage from Port Macquarie could’ve spelt the end of the King’s career. It’s taken a year for the Earth to right itself and once again he is the leading Australian on the World Tour, making finals at will and with a new Joker podcast proving that timeless style will never grow old. In this profile he discusses the reasons behind the reinvention.

Femme Six – No6 Girls Line Release

No6 Girls Line Release ! No6 bodyboards is releasing a special board line for Girls ! Natasha Overin and Kelly Gordon will be representing the brand. Let us introduce you to the girls:

Natasha Overin hails from San Clemente, California. Growing up in a family of watermen her penchant for the water comes naturally. Honing her skills at T-Street and Salt Creek , this high school phenom as been dominating the local contest circuit and placing her #1 in the current BIA women’s standings and the crown for 2009 Divisional Women’s champion. Natasha exudes presence in any line up and this year the No.6 utilizes her feedback and development in our new lineup. Natasha has mentored with some of the best So Cal boarders and her line & rail work are some of the cleanest we have seen and gives her the edge in being the forefront of modern technique in women’s riding. Her plans are to travel and compete amongst the top women in the world. The Six is proud to have this talented force on the development team !

Be warned…Kelly Gordon is not your average femme bodyboarder. Her skills are ten-fold wielding a duality in style prone or DK. This Maui-born free spirit has been known to push herself in all conditions showing no fear from Off the Wall to Honolua Bay where you can hear testament to her developing obsessions. Kelly is currently on the Pro USBA tour and has been a force in the finals on many occasion. Kelly has been known to enter the Men’s divisions at times to build her instinct for decimating the best breaks in Hawaii. Ms. Gordon has finely crafted details in the new No.6 line and we look forward for Kelly to inspire a whole new wave of progressive women’s riding.

Sam Strachan wins the TURBO V competition and a spot on the TURBO Intl’ Team

Sam Strachan (Australia) – Excerpt from the TURBO website: “It is hard to believe Sam Strachan is only 16 years of age. There has been plenty of talk coming out Cronulla (one of bodyboarding’s toughest proving grounds) about Sam Strachan for what seems like years, and at the age of 15 Sam already had a Hawaiian season under his belt. More recently Sam beat a field of the best aspiring stars in the sport to win his place in the Shark Island Challenge. Sam has a level head on his shoulders and the talent to do anything in the sport. Turbo Surf Designs is proud to announce Sam as the 5th member of the Turbo 5 Professional team. He will be working closely with Turbo Development Manager, Andrew Lester and travelling with the Turbo professional team to take his career to the next level.
