Our buddies at SLAB Mag just released their first international issue of the mag. It’s definitely a must read
Let us introduce you to the mag & project before you go check it out:
‘Slab, a project of a few bodyboard addicts, is an 80-page fanzine created to propose a different vision of Bodyboarding, using a distinct angle. Just general thoughts on the sport, trips reports and a space for expression for all kinds of bodyboarders, whoever they are.
It aims to be a space of artistic creation for the Bodyboarding community, through words and graphic means. The English version of the magazine will be released every 6 months, each “opus” based on a renewed graphic universe. It will be free to read online, and we are working on a printed limited collector edition.
The idea is to move away from the mainstream approach of the sport to promote creation, sharing and community spiritThis project’s humble objective is to entertain our passion through a combination of images and words!
For any questions, requests, proposals or other, do not hesitate to send Slab an e-mail: contact@slabmagazine.net

Sam Strachan wins the TURBO V competition and a spot on the TURBO Intl’ Team
Sam Strachan (Australia) – Excerpt from the TURBO website: “It is hard to believe Sam Strachan is only 16 years of age. There has been plenty of talk coming out Cronulla (one of bodyboarding’s toughest proving grounds) about Sam Strachan for what seems like years, and at the age of 15 Sam already had a Hawaiian season under his belt. More recently Sam beat a field of the best aspiring stars in the sport to win his place in the Shark Island Challenge. Sam has a level head on his shoulders and the talent to do anything in the sport. Turbo Surf Designs is proud to announce Sam as the 5th member of the Turbo 5 Professional team. He will be working closely with Turbo Development Manager, Andrew Lester and travelling with the Turbo professional team to take his career to the next level. Congratulations Sam and welcome to the team”.
Check all the footage from Sam and the other competitors here on the Turbo website:

Ben Player has revamped his website at Benplayer.com and just released an absolutely mind-blowing video clip with Todd Barnes – a 15min. clip, all in HD, of his best waves on film in 2009.
Watch it here: http://www.benplayer.com/
Ben Player – TwoZeroZeroNine
I approached Todd Barnes – editor of the Thrash series – to edit this clip of my best waves from 2009 about six months ago. Todd’s reply was, ‘yeah mate, sweet. It should only take me about 2 weeks to edit.’
I wanted to make a free movie for the public, something that I would look at and make me feel proud.
Six months and about 101 phone calls later Todd had finished the project and when I saw the finished product I realised why it has taken so long. Every wave, every moment and every beat of the song makes me proud.
Hope you like this guys.
Thanks Todd.

Movement Mag issue 33 is now available. It’s got 2 different covers, sick content and great features, as usual…
Excerpt from the Movement Mag website:
When two images from the one wave emerge as the two best shots for an issue, eventually printing as double covers, you’d think the featured rider in said images would mark this as the happiest week of their life. For Michael Novy, though, that news came days after he broke his back surfing on the Central Coast. It’s the sweet and sour of life that makes you believe in more than just coincidence.
The meat in this meal consists of a profile of Mitch Rawlins, an Indo discovery with BP, the south coast chopper shoot that supplied the covers and an evolutionary guide to the world’s best boards.
It is an interesting juncture in the life of Mitch Rawlins. Walking away from a weighty contract and stable life to launch his own board brand will surely make a list of highlights when his eyes roll back one last time and his life flashes before his eyes.
For a week BP and friends drove through remotest Indo in search of a wave they’d only seen on a shaky YouTube clip. While they failed to find the wave firing to its obvious potential they enjoyed a holiday in the unlikeliest of locations.
Boards are most important to the act of bodyboarding. Professional riders understand the important of a tailored template and in this feature they discuss the refinements their boards have undergone to reach their current look.
And so back to Novy, the chopper and that one wave. The full sequence is inside the magazine.
