Grand Flavour’s new website and retail strategy

Grand Flavour’s new website is online and it looks fresh and cool with their new collection. GF has also decided to only sell online on their website from now on and not sell in bodyboard shops anymore. GF hasn’t really explained why or what motivated this decision but we at Spongercity think it’s actually quite cool in a way, for different reasons. Anyways, the brand and team and collection is cool so whatever they choose to do it’s cool.

We’ve given our opinion about it on the Movement Mag website here in the comments. Leave your opinion or comment on the Movement Mag site or here on this post if you want. We’d be curious to see what you guys think.

Alex Uranga wins the Reunion Island Pro !

Congrats Alex ! From the IBA Site: “Alex Uranga from the Basque Country in northern Spain is the winner of the 2011 Nissan Reunion Bodyboard Pro at Les Archers in Saint-Pierre, Reunion. Uranga, 22, who won the trials into the main event, took his winning streak all the way to the final, defeating Jake Stone from Dunsborough in Western Australia, with minutes to go, in glassy four to six foot waves.

The Basque was carried on the shoulders of his brother and a friend from the water’s edge to the presentation area while the crowd whistled and cheered for him. He dedicated his win to all the people who believed in him back in the Basque Country. “It’s incredible”, said Alex Uranga, “I can’t put these feelings into words”.

Jake Stone, 22, beat reigning world champion and local, Amaury Lavernhe in the quarterfinal and Frenchman Pierre-Louis Costes in the semifinal. Stone, was coming first until 2 minutes before the final siren when Uranga caught his winning wave, a big back flip scoring him a 7.6 out of a possible ten. “It was a sick final unfortunately I got nipped at the end there. He [Uranga] took it apart, so I’m stoked for him”, said Stone. This is Stone’s best result on the IBA GSS world tour.

Vids vids vids !

More vids to watch ! The lack of DVDs out has been largely compensated by the amount of good podcasts / webisodes / clips online recently. We must say we’d rather see more real good full length DVD’s or videos online rather than just short clips but hey, it’s recession times ! What did you expect ? At least we still have something to watch !

Cruising on one of the outer Islands with Miles and Damien scoring one of my favorite waves and discovering breathtaking areas that I would not have known existed”.

The simpler the better

We enhanced our navigation bar (yes, the grey thing above this text and under our red flashy spongercity header where you can choose to check other stuff than what’s on this page) and although you probably don’t remember at all how the older navigation bar looked like, we think we made it simpler. We took some old and now useless categories and threw them away, we added our Facebook, Twitter and Flickr in there and regrouped some other categories together (all reviews together with DVDs and CD’s).

Anyways, the navigation bar is just simpler and better – we hope so at least. Our videos (The Spongercity Podcast) can be found in there as well under the “Podcast” tab which links toward iTunes for Podcast Subscriptions and all our vids are available on iTunes and/or Vimeo.

We’ll keep on enhancing the webssite within the next few weeks because it’s been a while since we enhanced the menus, categories and stuff.

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. ~Confucius
