Turbo recruts Elliot Morales
We’re a week late on this one as we didn’t get much time to blog about everything we wanted to – and haven’t slept much recently due to intensive hours spent watching the Pipeline Pro super late every night (the Spongercity HQ are in Europe) – but here’s some cool news from TURBO:
Turbo Surf Designs are proud to announce the signing of Canary Island Super Grom – Elliot Morales. At only 19 years of age Elliot has made a big impression at his home breaks in the Canary Islands, namely the infamous El Fronton. Turbo has now backed Elliot and put him straight into The Turbo Global Team. Elliot is currently in Hawaii staying at the Turbo House for the IBA Pipeline Pro and will head out to Australia in the middle of the year to work on some team projects.
Turbo Managing Director, Gregg Taylor, stated “that he was stoked to have Elliot joining the Turbo team and looks forward to working with Elliot and furthering his career in Bodyboarding. The Canary Islands has so much talent among the local riders and it is not easy to stand out from the crowd, though Elliot has been doing that for a number of years now. It will be exciting to see how Elliot develops with his trips to Hawaii and Australia working with the senior members of the Turbo team”
Elliot simply stated “i am so happy of being a member of turbo team!!!”

Dan Sivess x Pride
Dan Sivess will now be working more closely with PRIDE to design the boards/templates for the brand and we can surely expect some good stuff coming from the lads at PRIDE and Dan Sivess with the skills he has and the solid team of riders at PRIDE.

Glen Thurston officially launches his board company called iD Boards. You can already browse thru the new website and have a look at the boards / features etc.

Good news here: Jacob Romero signs with FLIPMODE Clothing !
FLIPMODE Clothing is very happy & excited to announce the signing of Jacob Romero. Hailing from Maui zones (as he calls it), Jacob has been turning heads for the last few years & getting a lot of media coverage in Australia & overseas.
Most of us know him as the “CHOUT” guy but with a preference for heavy waves & big boosts, Jacob is leading the charge for the new breed of riders coming from Hawaii. His past performances on the IBA & USBA tour are a testament to his hunger for success.
Jacob was recently described by Pierre-Louis Costes (Riptide #180) as being part of the new generation of innovators of the sport, always trying new moves.
In 2011, Jacob is the perfect addition to the team & will help establish/solidify the brand on the international market. Alongside Jones Russell, Jacob will be competing in the 2011 pipeline pro & follow both the GQS & USBA tours. We wish him the best of luck in his quest to be the next world champ.

Nick Mesritz Designs is pleased to announce that Jake Stone has signed on as the latest addition to the VS Project. Jake will join Ryan Hardy & Joe Clarke in one of the world’s most exclusive and dynamic bodyboarding teams.
Speaking from his state-of-the-art production facility in East Java, Indonesia, Mez commented: “We are stoked to have signed Jake to VS. I have been closely watching his progression over the last couple of seasons and Jake has graduated from the hot grom of yesterday to a solidified professional rider. He has benefited from his move to the West Side of Australia, which has enabled Jake to take his surfing to the next level. From riding fun wedges, to taming gigantic kegs in the outer ocean, Jake is the perfect candidate to push the boundaries for the next evolution of the VS project”
Jake’s first efforts as a VS team rider will be to tackle Hawaii’s famed North Shore. While on “The Rock”, Jake will unveil his new VS set-up at the first event for 2011 of the IBA Grand Slam Tour; The Pipeline Pro. With his breakthrough IBA victory in Ferrol, Spain last season, at only 21 years of age, Jake is a genuine World Title Contender for the 2011 Tour.
This year the VS Project takes on a different direction. With 2 of the foundation shapers of the project taking the next step in their respective careers, the dynamic of the shaper aspect has evolved. Todd Quigley heads up the shaping and design facility in Australia, where he will work closely with the 3 riders to develop and refine their boards. Nick Mesritz is taking on a more active role working closely with both Todd and the riders to provide expert knowledge in the areas of construction and material design. With Todd as head shaper, Mez running the VS production in Indonesia and the riders taking care of business in the water, this 1, 2, 3 synergy will undoubtedly deliver one of the most progressive bodyboard ranges in the world.
