Arica Chilean Challenge is ON

FRIDAY MAY 20 2011, ARICA CHILE: DAY ONE at the Arica Chilean Challenge is off to a cracking start with solid 2 mtr waves at the infamous powerful reef of El Gringo.
The first rounds of the trials saw some outstanding riding from the predominately Chilean contingent in front of a vocal local crowd.
Lucas Isnard (Brazil) and Danton Correa (Chile) were the two standouts of the day with consistent performances.
Joa Gabriel (Brazil) held the best two-wave combo (14.00) whilst the single highest score of the day belonged to Sebastian Siede (Chile) who blasted out of the gates in the first heat to post a solid 8 pointer for a deep tube to roll combo.
In the last heat of the day Kalani Latanzzi (Brazil) showed why he is one of the next big things coming out of South America with great wave selection and style.
The day included countless other highlights as El Gringo showed glimpses of brilliance by pumping out the occasional heaving slab that split in both directions. The forecast for the coming days looks promising with Sunday shaping up for the finish to the trails and a possible start for the main event.
By mid afternoon the “Brisa” or onshore breeze kicked in and organizers decided to postpone the last 4 heats of round 2 till tomorrow.
The town goes into celebratory mode tomorrow with a public holiday so an army of hardcore spectators is expected to roll up. The competitors are asked to check in at 7am for a 7.30 start.
The top 7 riders from these trials join the Top 23 riders in the world and two wildcards in the main event next week.

Follow the pros, the tour, the plot, the contests, the IBA…

Follow the pros, the tour, the plot, the contests, the IBA… This year the IBA is as good as it gets – Great events on great spots are a big part of what makes the tour cool but there’s more than just this. One of the great things about the whole new tour is video coverage, interviews, webcasts and stuff. We’re stoked to be able to watch interviews before, during and after the events here on the IBA Tour vimeo channel: http://vimeo.com/ibaworldtour/videos/ Don’t miss this ! Lots of pros interviews before the BOX event !

THE BOX – Event 2/8 – IBA World Tour 2011

Second event on the 2011 IBA Tour calendar – Starts on the 14th of April – Dont miss this and watch it live on RedBullTV !

Peep the teaser here: http://vimeo.com/21638552

Props to the IBA crew for editing such good teasers for all comps. We love the world map presenting the stops and all little details in the teaser – serious video / motion graphics talent ! Yewwww

Back on the Pipeline Pro 2011 event

Although the waves were probably not the best ones you can score at Pipe we’d like to congratulate the IBA and everyone who made this possible because the quality of the webcast, the commentators, the organisation, the clips, the recaps, the replays, the promotion of the event, the fact that Redbull was involved, the TV’s running the event live, the riders level: everything was as good as it gets !

The only issue we had was the live scoring not refreshing well enough. Other than that it’s simply the best webcast and the best promotion we’ve ever seen for an event and for bodyboarding in general.

Can’t wait to watch the next event at the Box, in Western Australia in April.

Will then follow the Peruvian Inka Challenge, the Arica Chilean Challenge, The Búzios Bodyboarding Festival, the Zicatela Pro, the Sopelana BBK, the Sintra Portugal Pro, the Ferrol Pro, the Campos Pro, the Knights Beach Pro, the Reunion Pro, the Confital Pro and the Fronton Showdown.
(In bold are the Grand Slam Series events)

Kim Feast wins the Pipeline Pro DK Division

Kim Feast wins the Pipeline Pro DK Division in a tight heat against Cesar Bauer (2nd) Winny (3rd) and Myles Kauhaahaa (4th). Congrats Kim !

Sick to see all those guys shredding on the knee and although the waves weren’t that good most of the riders managed to get barreled and throw some solid snaps & floats (including the so-called prone riders who actually got some skills and sometimes even more style than some of the DKriders…).
