…and goodbye to 800×600 screens resolutions.
After hundreds of hours spent coding it and dozens of sleepless nights, we’re eventually releasing our Version 3.0 of Spongercity.com
We’re glad we did this with our own two hands, coded this new template and designed everything by ourselves, with our passion and your support.
No big changes aesthetically, just cleaner designs and wider presentation, easier navigation and a couple new fonctionnalities that should save us (and you) quite some time. People with large screens should appreciate the change, people with 800×600 screens should start hating us for doing this but hey, maybe it’s time to get a new 24 ich flat screen mate ! yewwwww
Anyway, there might still be a few bugs here and there, report them in the comments if you can and we’ll take care of them ASAP. We’re not completely done with our Version 3.0 modifications and we’ll keep on improving it next week and stop lagging on DVD reviews and interviews, we promise !
We’re now working on a couple new web projects as well… so stay tuned.

Paulo Barcellos won the pipe event (first IBA event of the 2008 calendar) and defeated Jeff Hubbard (HAW) Uri Valadao (BRZ) & Hugo Pinheiro (POR). Conditions were not that good but the occasionnal bigger sets and throwing lips kept the 1/4 and semis and finals interesting. Impressive riding from everyone. Props to PLC for making it so far in the contest with an injured back and knee. Yeah Pierre ! Also note Botha’s really good performance and pipe skills.

A bodyboard picture was awarded with the 3rd place in the action sports category in the prestigious world press photo. It’s a pic of the Sumol Nazaré Special Edition (portuguese contest with freakin huge waves), it was taken by portuguese photographer Miguel Barreira. Unreal picture !
The Pipe contest in Hawaii is about to start, and it looks like the conditions are gonna be big and clean from what the forecast says. What a cool way to start the 2008 IBA tour ! Peep the IBA Site for more news and full forecast report.
Industry / Sponsor change news: Ryan Mattick is now riding for 4PLAY boards and will soon have a pro-model. Yewwww.

One of the rare USA production in 2007, HAPPY DAYS by Juan Farfan (Chula Vista Production) pleased us with its nice and clean style and the diversity of footage and moods that could be found in this movie. Read the full review to see why.

Seen this week during the Monster Energy Billabong contest at Pipeline – Hawaii : Stand Up Pro Surfer Fred Patacchia paddle out on a nice pink Toobs board (Chris Taloa’s board we reckon) during his heat after being comboed by Pancho Sullivan, 10 minutes before the end of his heat. Fred took 2nd place of the contest. Paddling out on a boogieboard during his heat was all about a bet but it was still pretty fun to see a nice pink Toobs board at the monster energy pro contest ! Check Freddy P.’s picture with his sweet ride here.

Crysis Mag issue 13 is about to hit the shelves. Peep the cover here. Mag is thicker, with a different format and a wider distribution. Sick Dk cover and sick Toobs feature inside. Looks like TOOBS is taking over the US market once again with a sick team, sick boards and top notch customer service.
Talking about boards, our buddies at CARTEL just sent us the new FC Cartel Board for 2008, designed by french waterman and all around rider Fred Compagnon and PMA. Sick board, really polyvalent and optional crazy nose rocker available. Check it out here.
One more cool board tech news is the 4PLAY new core technology called Fusion Core developped by Dallas Singer and 4Play head shaper Reon Fisher. The Fusion Core, unlike most gimmicks, seems to be a really good idea: the board’s core is composed of 55% of PP and 45% of PE core. The bottom 55% is PP, the top 45% is PE, so it’s flexy under your elbows and stiffer toward the tail to keep the board fast. Sounds like a good prone board thing. The first batch of Dallas Singer fusion core boards just hit the Oz market as we write this.
