SOFT SPOKEN // Sean Manning
Another R.O.T. video. This is number 9. This one features Hubbard who’s got a super nice section, Alistair Taylor, always charging, Botha who’s got some good waves from last winter in Hawaii, then comes Roach. Most of the footage is from the indo experiment trip (with Riptide mag) so it’s not new Roach footage but it’s Roach footage and Roach footage is something rare so it’s always good.
Then comes a trippy/arty section with Bitzer which is pretty good. Matt Lackey’s next, this is one of the best section i’ve seen of Lackey, i dont know if it’s new footage or not but this section shows all his DK skills, both front and backside on a cool Pridebowl song. I’ll talk about the music later anyway. Then you’ve got some old Fred Booth footage in prone, with his unmatchable smooth style. Brian Wise has the last section with some solid pipe barrels. Brian charges as usual with his clean style.
Well, something disappointed me though in the video. It’s written “new school” punk on the cover of the dvd (about the soundtrack) but half the music in the video is from ROT4 and even Propaganda. Maybe you havent seen those videos but those who were riding 5 years ago might remember and be as surprised as me. Maybe we shoulda buy the video half the price if half the music is from previous ROT videos ??
Nice footage and images though, not that well edited…You judge by yourself. Better than FRONT maybe.

FRONT // Sean Manning
This is the latest ROT video, it’s got a few pretty good stuff in it …
It starts with a weird intro, then comes really good puerto footage (watch out Brandon Foster in Dk ), then comes the sections of the vid’ with one rider per section:
Raffi first (nice but old footage), then Alistair Taylor (really good section), then Jeff Braggs (good Dk), Ben Player (nice & smooth as usual), Rob Crawford (wedge stuff), Mason Rose (other good Dker), Brian Wise (music sucks), Brian Pearson, Joe Grodzen and Matt Lackey (more good DK). Chris monroe comes last.
No good bonus in the DVD version.
Some of the music is good like the Ramones (B. Player’s part) or Cat Stevens (Alistair’s)…

EASY MONEY // RUSH & DARKSIDE
Nice overall video, the latest from Rush & Darkside, lots of arty/super8 footage, good riders and a few up and comers, good waves, the editing isn’t that good but the quality of the overall video and the level of the riders make you forget this.
I dunno if it’s the VHS tape or what but the quality of the images doesn’t look too good.
Music is allright.

RETINA REHAB // NOFRIENDS
Latest Nofriends “side project” video, R Rehab is pretty good. It’s got Stoker’s editing quality and a lot of different places are featured in that video.
The video quality of some of the footage isn’t as good as the “real” NF videos since this one was filmed by a lot of different guys but most of it is good. The level in the water is awesome as usual. It’s a more mellow vid’ though with good soundtrack and some 16MM arty footage.
It features Ross, Jeff, and Skipp plus the Players Bros, Virtue, Crawley, Lackey, Hardy, Rawlins etc… There’s a really nice Indo section with a lot of Padang footage which is super ‘Bagus’ (‘good’ in Indonisian).
So i’d say two thumbs up for that one. A must see. Nice bonus section in the DVD.

THE PILLAGE // DRAGON PICTURES
This is the latest Josh Libby movie, it says mixtape vol2 on the cover, i guess the first one was ‘the untouchable’ but the Pillage is way different and way better. It’s all Hawaii stuff. It’s got one section per rider and 8 riders.
In order of appearance, you’ve got Mike Stewart right after the intro with a good & long section in which you can see the master himself charging 3rd reef pipe like your backyard shorebreak. Then comes Ronk. Then Skipper with a pretty good section (on a pantera soundtrack); some of the footage looks old but the video took 3 years to film so that’s fine. Jarret Lau is next, he’s got a solid section with his trademark smooth airs and reverses 360’s. Then comes Kainoa with his usual dose of gangsta Rap soundtrack and fat DK pits at pipe. Ohhh and then it’s Chad militante’s part: you’d better hold your breath on that one coz he charges supa hard and busts one of the biggest reverse air of bodyboarding’ history and lands it perfectly. His section is the highlight of the vid’ coz you dont see him that often and that’s such a good section which the music (system of a down) matches perfectly.
Next is Alex Kinimaka, smooth rides and big barrels. There’s a lil’ mix section with south af’ and oz guys between kinimaka and Hubb. Hubb has the last section: it’s all about “new school baby, new move !” as the squirrel himself says. Nothing much to add, he’s got a solid section on a solid eminem soundtrack…
A very enjoyable video that is well edited…

SUPERSTARS II // KOOST media
Here is the new Supastars video. It’s full of super good footage, waves and riders. The video features some of today’s supastar spongers such as matt lackey, mason rose, mitch rawlins, hubb, ryan hardy and sean virtue . There are a few fun skits (i laughed more watching the first supastars video coz it was more sketchy and looked all crooked , nevermind) and stuff but what makes it a good video is the level of riding and the waves quality. There are lots of extra footage which is nice and stats about the riders. The extra tow out session is crazy ! you gotta see that, whether you think it is bodyboarding or not, it’s such a cool thing.
Nice overall video + super good quality DVD + huge level of riding = good times ahead in the sofa when there’s no waves !
